Who needs a dálniční známka

Every vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes using Czech motorways (dálnice) and some expressways (rychlostní silnice) must hold a valid electronic vignette linked to the license plate. Motorcycles are exempt.

There is no physical sticker. The system is fully digital and enforced by ANPR cameras at every motorway entry.

2026 prices for passenger cars

Typical rates for a standard car (category up to 3.5 t):

• 1 day: about 12 €
• 10 days: about 16 €
• 30 days: about 24 €
• 1 year: about 97 €

The 10-day rule for short visits

Many tourists driving from Germany or Austria into Prague buy a 1-day vignette. That works — but if your return trip is more than 24 hours later, you need a 10-day one instead.

The 1-day product runs from 00:00 on your chosen start date until 23:59 that same calendar day. Crossing midnight without a new vignette means you are uninsured.

Where it applies

Not every road in Czechia is tolled. The vignette covers the main motorway network: D1 (Prague–Brno), D5 (Prague–Plzeň–Germany), D8 (Prague–Ústí–Germany), D11 (Prague–Hradec Králové), and others.

Use the official map on edalnice.cz before you drive. Some urban bypasses and local sections are free even when they look like motorways on a map app.

Common mistakes

• Wrong plate format. Czech plates use no spaces; foreign plates must match the registration exactly, including hyphens and country suffix if your country uses one.
• Buying after entry. Cameras at the border read your plate within minutes. Buy before you merge onto the D-road.
• Trailer weight. A car plus trailer over 3.5 t combined needs a higher category — not the standard car rate.
