FAQ — Slovakia 1-day
Do motorcycles need a Slovak e-známka?
No. Motorcycles and vehicles with fewer than 4 wheels have been exempt from the Slovak vignette since 2015. You can freely use Slovak motorways on a motorcycle.
What's the fine for driving without a Slovak vignette?
€150 on the spot. Slovak automatic cameras cover all major motorways (D1, D2, D3, D4, R1) and detect plates instantly. Unpaid fines escalate.
Is there a 1-day Slovak vignette?
Yes, since August 2024. A 1-day e-známka costs €8.10 and is valid until midnight of the selected day. It was introduced for transit drivers passing through.
Does the vignette cover the Bratislava D4 ring?
Yes, the D4 motorway bypass around Bratislava requires a vignette. Even if you're transiting Vienna → Budapest and only cross ~30 km of Slovak motorway, you need one.
How far in advance can I buy the vignette?
Up to 60 days in advance — you set the start date yourself. The system also prevents duplicate purchases: if your plate already has a valid vignette for an overlapping period, you can't buy another.
What's the difference between "365-day" and "annual" vignette?
Slovakia's annual vignette is called "365-day" — it's valid for exactly 365 days from your chosen start, not the calendar year. So a vignette starting 15 April 2026 is valid until 14 April 2027.
